Dr. Gordie Kaban

Dr. Gordie Kaban

Dr. Gordie Kaban was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, and obtained his MD with distinction in 1997 from the University of Saskatchewan. He went on to complete his General Surgery residency at the University of Saskatchewan and obtained his Royal College Fellowship in General Surgery in 2002. He then completed a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Massachusetts from 2002-2004. He has been practicing General Surgery in Regina since then.  He is the General Surgery residency coordinator in Regina and has an interest in surgical education.  His clinical interests include laparoscopic upper gastrointestinal surgery (hiatal hernia), solid organ surgery (adrenal, spleen), bariatric surgery and complex abdominal wall/hernia repair.

Dr. Steve Pooler

Dr. Steve Pooler

Dr. Pooler started surgical practice in Regina with Plains Surgical Associates in 2009. Although he was born in Regina, he spent most of his childhood in British Colombia but his heart was always in Saskatchewan. After returning to Regina in 1994, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Regina. Dr. Pooler received his medical degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 2003. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Pooler completed his General Surgery residency at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, followed by a Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

Dr. Pooler performs all types of General Surgical procedures but has particular interests in minimally invasive colorectal surgery, upper GI surgery and hernia surgery. Dr. Pooler is also one of three surgeons in Saskatchewan performing Bariatric procedures through the provincial Bariatric program.  

Dr. Pooler is currently the Area Lead for the Section of General Surgery in Regina. He is an Associate Professor with the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine and is actively involved in training medical students and surgical residents and is the acting Surgical Clerkship coordinator for the Regina campus.

When he is not caring for patients, Dr. Pooler enjoys an active lifestyle with his wife and two children. They enjoy lake time, mountain biking, camping, hiking, and especially fishing. He enjoys playing and coaching hockey and is a die hard Rider fan.


Dr. Matthew Butler

Dr. Matthew Butler began his general surgical practice in Regina in 2011. Although born and raised near Ottawa he has called Regina home for himself, wife and 5 children for the last 13 years. Dr. Butler completed an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from McMaster University in Hamilton before completing his MD at the University of Toronto. He then went on to complete his General Surgical Residence at the University of Alberta in Edmonton followed by a 1 year Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

As one of 4 Bariatric surgeons in the province Dr. Butler has a special interest in Bariatric Surgery and is involved in the provincial Bariatric surgery program. This program provides surgical care for Bariatic Surgery patients from across the province.

In addition to Bariatric surgery Dr. Butler specializes in minimally invasive surgery including minimally invasive colorectal surgery, upper GI surgery including hiatal hernia surgery as well as laparoscopic approaches to inguinal hernias and other abdominal surgical issues. He also sees patients requiring colonoscopy and gastroscopy as well as head and neck surgical conditions of the thyroid and parathyroid.

When not in the hospital treating patients Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and 5 children. Family time includes camping, hiking, playing board and computer games and just relaxing.


Dr. Taylor Bereti

Dr. Taylor Bereti

Dr. Taylor Bereti was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. He has completed both his medical degree and surgical residency at the University of Saskatchewan. He now practices a wide base of general surgery in Regina and is a certified Advance Trauma and Life Support instructor, and trauma physician.

Dr. Bereti is well-versed in laparoscopic surgery including laparoscopic colon, hernia, and reflux surgery. He also performs head and neck surgery, breast surgery, as well as large abdominal wall hernia repairs. He provides trauma coverage for the southern part of the province and is an assistant professor at the University of Saskatchewan, College of Medicine. He is also the surgical clerkship coordinator for medical students at the Regina College of Medicine.

When not in the office he enjoys running, fishing, hiking, and cheering for the roughriders.
